Remix Magazine Shutting Its Doors

You hear all the time from recording artists who get dropped that they "just didn't get enough support from their label". Sounds to me like Remix got the Magazine World's equivalent, when word got out that they are closing their doors...
With the economy getting worse, Remix will cease to be as a print magazine as of the January issue. But it will continue on with its events (Remix Hotel) and online (Remixmag.com).

As much as I liked the magazine, it was getting increasingly difficult to find it on a newsstand. Yet everyone I know in music looked forward to their Remix Hotel music conventions. Looks like it was the only thing making money.

Sad to see it go...

Wolfram Tones - A Mathematical Music Generator

Recently I have been looking into online web applications that allow you to do synthesis and audio manipulation, and stumbled onto this site.

The idea behind this webpage,  by Wolfram Research, the makers of Mathematica (mathematical computational software company, a popular scientific app), is that it serves as a demonstration of how their computational software can be used to create an interactive web application that can automatically create music.

Whether or not you think its good music, is another idea entirely.

It gives you a pictorial representation of musical notes, and a bunch of sliders, note styles, genres, tones, colors, BPM, etc (There are way too many tabs to list...).

It then generates tones using the General Midi on your machine, allowing you to adjust  which GM sounds you use.

Then you can take the generated midi, and email, download, or post it to Facebook, for FREE!

Sure, it sounds midi-ish on the webpage, but, you can import the midi files into any app and massage how it sounds any way you want after that.

Fucking brilliant, and FREE!

I made one using the "middle eastern" preset; sounds almost like a ringtone version of a popular Dubstep tune I heard a few years ago,,, ;)

The Dori Show, Thursdays @ Noon on WMSE, 91.7, Milwaukee, Wisconsin

http://www.wmse.org/djs/dori.php

Thursday afternoons are abuzz with the latest music. Some afternoons Dori indulges in the 80’s. She’s even been known to host an occasional dance party during her show. Dori’s often visited by Milwaukee’s local bands promoting their weekend performances. And oftentimes Milwaukee’s resident dj’s come in and spin their favorite tunes. It’s just a great way to spend a Thursday afternoon.

The date of the show is contained in the name of the file.

Gunshot Celebrations for Obama

Milwaukee, WI:

(12:14:38 AM) gunshots just went off here lol
I sat and watched the election events this evening with my mother. We sat together and listened to Barack give his acceptance speech. My mother had tears in her eyes, as she never thought this would happen in her lifetime. Scenes of people all over the world celebrating! My phone kept going off, from text messages my friends had sent from across the world, celebrating that he had won. Outside, down the street, gunshhots were going off in celebration.
The shots snapped me to my next thought... would he be able to complete his term in office? There are some people who now hate the fact that their president is black, they may become desperate enough to see that he does not succeed, resorting to attacks, assasination attempts, terror. This could be the most difficult time ever for the Secret Service...
