Random Tech: If Google Trends was True

Random Tech: If Google Trends was True

If Google Trends was True

Google Trends aims to provide insights into broad search patterns. As a Google Labs product, it is still in the early stages of development. Also, it is based upon just a portion of our searches, and several approximations are used when computing your results. Please keep this in mind when using it.

Google Trends, a new offspring of Google Labs, returns graphical information of which keywords are searched by which nationalities. Now of course, the data presented by Google Trends is not 100% true.

Google Trends uses IP address information from our server logs to make a best guess about where queries originated.

It's just an estimate. But it's entertaining to consider what the world would be like if Google Trends was 100% accurate. What if Google Trends actually did world news? Here's a list to give you an idea:

  • Peruvians blog 5 times more than Americans.
  • Amsterdam is more about ajax than drugs.
  • The Irish are the majority of downloaders on the iTunes Music Store, although the Poles are the kings of P2P.
  • Mexicans misspell everyone's favorite MP3 player with a common sentence of past tense.
  • Lesbian Norwegians were partying hard on the New Year with their new dildos.
  • The Phillipines is pretty much the only country who likes the Da Vinci Code.
  • Koreans are hyped about Web 2.0.
  • Washington DC is planning an assassination of a not-so-popular Texan president.
  • The United States does not know how to clean all the mold in its country.
  • The Ku Klux Klan still exists in Turkey.
  • Osama's cave is in Egypt.
  • Pakistanis are suckers for boobs, while vaginas are more of an Indonesian thing.
  • Indians knew about the Wii in 2004.
  • At least Iran is trying to understand women.
  • The Mohammed fad was only temporary.
  • Malaysia generates its revenue from Adsense.
  • Highly anticipated video game Spore is already a huge hit to Singaporeans, mainly because the game rhymes with their country.
  • South Africans, also known as the masters of Chuck Norris jokes, are concerned about Global Warming, while the Germans don't give a shit.
  • Lots of failure in late 2005. My guess is criticism of George W. Bush after Hurricane Katrina.
  • Hungary is crazy about Star Wars.
  • Who knew that New Zealanders could shotput?
  • Slovakia is just a big cheater.
  • Moroccans are homies with 50 cent.
  • Malaysians are fascinated with Kevin Rose.

slight feed change...

So I guess in the changeover from the old blogger to the new blogger, my feeds got a little screwy...
all the feeds were working fine, but the 'autodiscovery' of the feed for this page wasn't directing to my feedburner feed.
So I changed up a few things...
If all this 'feed' business is confusing to you, all you need to know is that if you want to subscribe to our page, just click this link:

Electric Heathen reviews "300"

In response to reviews about the movie '300', Mr. Electric Heathen felt compelled to post this rant:

'300' Battle of the Manly Men: Blood Bath With a Message

I give it a B. If that. Basically a 2 hour war propaganda piece...

Any coincidence that the bad guys were *Persians* and many dressed like Muslims despite this being set 1000 years before Mohammed?

That the king broke their sacred law to defend against the encroachments of the Persian tyrant, the last holdout against the forces of darkness? This despite the fact that you never saw what made the Persians so nefarious - you just knew they were bad guys because they were either Semitic, Black, and/or mutated/deformed, and/or had their face pierced in weird places. Meanwhile the Spartans (with their Darwinian infant-slaughtering & might-is-right ubermacho drag) aren't really easy to sympathize with because the self-righteous sociopaths don't want or need your sympathy as an audience, they're so f*cking tough! (GRRRR!)

Then you have the greasy lying spineless opportunist politician sub-plot, an obvious jab at anti-war politicians. The timing of the movie - with Bush asking for 20,000 new troops - is suspect. It suddenly calls into question Frank Miller's agenda here, that's for damned sure. Ironically, Sparta was a total slave state with a 7:1 slave to citizen ratio.

And as far as being "the new Matrix" - eh. Not really. Like someone handed someone else a comic book and said "turn this into a movie that looks like a comic book." Even at that it fails though, because there's too much talking, the violence is so stylized it gets boring, and... the fact is that this was basically a fantasy movie that borrowed elements of an actual historical tale, but very selectively. Then there were the funny but a little questionable homophobe jokes delivered while wearing leather codpieces and red velvet capes?!?... I could go on and on. The floating redhead was alright though. ;)

'300'

Gerard Butler plays Leonidas,
the Spartan who leads an army of 300
against a Persian invasion.
(Warner Brothers Pictures)

Battle of the Manly Men: Blood Bath With a Message
By A. O. SCOTT

"300" is about as violent as "Apocalypto" and twice as stupid. Adapted from a graphic novel by Frank Miller and Lynn Varley, it offers up a bombastic spectacle of honor and betrayal, rendered in images that might have been airbrushed onto a customized van sometime in the late 1970s. The basic story is a good deal older. It's all about the ancient Battle of Thermopylae, which unfolded at a narrow pass on the coast of Greece whose name translates as Hot Gates.

Hot Gates, indeed! Devotees of the pectoral, deltoid and other fine muscle groups will find much to savor as King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) leads 300 prime Spartan porterhouses into battle against Persian forces commanded by Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro), a decadent self-proclaimed deity who wants, as all good movie villains do, to rule the world.
